Leimert Park is a Los Angeles neighborhood bordered by Rodeo Road, 4th Avenue/Roxton Avenue, Vernon Avenue, and Crenshaw Boulevard. It was designed for upper and middle-incomefamilies and was considered a model of urban planning. The developmer, Walter Leimert, envisioned Leimert Park as a self-sufficient community, with a town square, theatre and retail shopping. Today, Leimert Park is considered the center of the African-American arts scene in Los Angeles, with art galleries, and venues for music, dramatic performances and poetry readings. The intersection of 43rd and Degnan at the south end of Leimert Park is home ot the Vision Theatre and a community park and fountain, site of regular gatherings and festivals.
